A Relaxing Weekend at Bundaleer 2 with Tiny Away
Last weekend, we packed up the car and headed for a two-night stay at Bundaleer 2, a cosy tiny home hosted by Tiny Away, tucked away in the beautiful Upper Hunter region. It was just the reset we needed, offering a perfect balance of adventure and tranquillity. Here’s a recap of our unforgettable weekend.
Day 1: Scenic Stops, Tiny Home Comforts, and a Fire Under the Stars
We left Sydney on Friday morning, excited to embrace a slower pace of life for a few days. On the way to Bundaleer, we couldn’t resist stopping at some of our favourite spots in the Hunter Valley Hungerford Hill Winery, The Smelly Cheese Shop, and Piggs Peake Winery.
By the time we arrived at Bundaleer, it was late afternoon. The hosts had provided super clear instructions for finding and accessing the property, and everything went off without a hitch.
The tiny home exceeded our expectations. It was immaculately clean and well-designed, managing to feel both cosy and spacious. As you step inside:
To the right is a queen bed with floor-to-ceiling windows on either side, offering breathtaking views.
The kitchen is straight ahead, complete with a fridge, kettle, and induction stovetop.
To the left is the bathroom, featuring a flushing toilet and an impressively roomy shower.
After settling in, we explored the property and gathered firewood with the owners’ permission. This was a lovely touch, making the experience feel even more connected to the natural surroundings.
That evening, we lit the fire and cooked steaks on the BBQ. Mel, my wife, loved the vibe of the fire but wasn’t a fan of the smoke, so she opted to enjoy the flickering flames from the comfort of the bed, watching through one of the large windows. Meanwhile, I sat outside, sipping wine and enjoying the peace and quiet under the stars.
Day 2: Wildlife Encounters, Wine Tasting, and Sunset Views
We woke up early on Saturday, hoping to catch the sunrise, but the weather didn’t cooperate. Instead, we were greeted by kangaroos, rock wallabies, and the resident cattle—a magical way to start the day.
As we left the property for the day, we noticed that another tiny home was occupied. However, it’s positioned so cleverly that we neither saw nor heard the other guests, adding to the secluded feel of our stay.
For breakfast, we made the short 10-minute drive into Denman and stopped at Fresh Denman (27 Ogilvie St, Denman NSW 2328). Their food was delicious, and the coffee was exactly what we needed to kickstart the day.
We spent the rest of the day back in the Hunter Valley, this time meeting up with friends for more wine tasting: Comyns & Co, Binet Family Wines, and Allandale Winery.
For lunch, we visited Jimmy Jones (18-19 Vintage Dr, Rothbury NSW 2320), where the laid-back setting was matched by incredible food.
After saying goodbye to our friends, we headed back to Denman for dinner at The Denman Hotel (10 Ogilvie St, Denman NSW 2328). Their generous pub meals hit the spot, and a cold beer was the perfect end to a big day.
We returned to Bundaleer just in time to catch a spectacular sunset from our balcony. That night, we kept it low-key, playing card games inside the tiny home—a simple yet perfect way to relax after a full day.
Day 3: Farewell to Bundaleer
Sunday morning came too soon. We tidied up the tiny home, took some final photos, and said goodbye to the cows before heading into Denman for breakfast. On our way back to Sydney, we made one last stop at Hollydene Winery (3463 Golden Hwy, Jerrys Plains NSW 2330). Their beautiful property offers food options as well—had we known this, we might have chosen to enjoy breakfast there instead! It was a fantastic final touch to our weekend.
Final Thoughts
While we spent some time driving between Denman and the Hunter Valley, we realised you could easily spend an entire weekend exploring the Upper Hunter without venturing far. Bundaleer 2 was the perfect base for our adventures.
From its thoughtful design to its serene location, the tiny home offered everything we needed for a relaxing getaway. Whether it’s the crackling fire under the stars or waking up to wildlife outside your window, Bundaleer feels like a slice of paradise.
We’ll definitely be back soon. If you’re looking for a peaceful escape, Bundaleer is a must.
