The tiny home by Tiny Away, nestled in the lush Byron Bay hinterland, promised a much-needed reset from the busyness of life. With Federal as our destination—a small village we hadn’t explored before—we were excited for a weekend of simplicity and relaxation.
Our journey took us through the town of Mullumbimby, where we stocked up on snacks and healthy treats from Santos Health Foods, knowing that the property didn’t allow meat. As we wound our way through the hinterland’s rolling green hills, the beauty of the scenery immediately helped us unwind. Upon arrival, the property continued to impress with its spectacular views. The tiny home sits on land owned by the creators of Synthesis Organics Skincare, with a new lab serving as a landmark.
However, the property was still a work in progress, and this became apparent quickly. A half-finished relocatable home sat only ten meters from the tiny house, and the surrounding landscape was incomplete, giving the place a somewhat unfinished feel. Still, the inside of the home was light, airy, and inviting. A cute “Let Love In” sign greeted us, and the subtle scent of infused oils added a welcoming touch.
Though we had ordered eggs, bread, and firewood for an extra charge, the lack of outdoor cooking facilities made us rethink our meal plans. The absence of coffee-making equipment and microwave added to the impracticality, though a few teabags were provided. Despite these small inconveniences, we felt lucky to be the first guests and were hopeful that these minor issues would be addressed for future visitors.
