Sheepdogs, Stars, and Snowcapped Peaks

Just when I needed an escape to photograph the breathtaking countryside of New Zealand, I discovered a hidden gem in the heart of Canterbury. This tiny cabin was exactly what I had been looking for situated in a place where nature and silence reign.

As a photographer, I seek out locations that allow me to capture the things I love, and this place has it all. Located next to the Rollesby Range and just 25 minutes from Lake Tekapo, a UNESCO Dark Sky Reserve, it offers endless opportunities for both day and night photography. From stunning landscapes to incredible night sky views, I was able to experience and document it all.

If you’re a nature lover or adventure enthusiast, the farm itself spans over 2,000 hectares and is home to more than 5,000 animals. There’s plenty of room to hike, and if you enjoy mountain biking, the Rollesby Range offers a thrilling trail experience. You can also take part in farm tours on a 4WD, explore on your bike, or learn about the wool-making process. One of the highlights of my visit was watching the sheepdogs at work—a truly remarkable experience that brought the heart of New Zealand's farming life to the forefront.

This escape into nature was exactly what I needed, and I can’t wait to return for more. Whether you’re into hiking, biking, or just soaking in the peaceful surroundings, this cabin and its surrounding countryside offer something for everyone.
